Buckle your seatbelts because Alpine School District is upgrading your student information experience to “first class.”
This summer, the Alpine School District technology team will upgrade the student information system from Skyward SMS 2.0 to the modern Skyward Qmlativ, better known as “Q.”
“Alpine School District is committed to providing the highest quality learning experience for every student,” said Paul Lewis, Director of Data Services. “This upgrade will allow our teachers, parents, and students to understand the new environment prior to the reconfiguration. Skyward Q represents a significant enhancement, with improvements to navigation, visual design, and overall usability.”
Strategic Timing: Preparing for District Reconfiguration
The Skyward upgrade has been in development since last summer and is scheduled for full implementation by August 2026, just in time for the new school year.
“Skyward requires all new districts to implement Skyward Q,” said Lewis. “By transitioning to Q at this time, users will have the opportunity to become familiar with its updated interface and navigation over the course of a full year prior to the district’s reconfiguration.”
By moving to Q this summer, users can gain a full year of familiarity with the new interface before new school districts take over operations.
A First Class Experience for Families
The Q experience is like moving from a cramped economy seat to the spacious comfort of a First Class cabin. While the core functionality remains the same, the modern interface requires fewer clicks and offers a sleek, powerful mobile app.
“We want parents to have a smooth and positive experience with this new version of Skyward,” said Allie Jolley, Skyward Lead Trainer. “For many families, the Student Information System is their primary connection to their child’s education—providing access to grades, attendance, communication, and important school updates.”
“Q looks like it will make it easier for parents to stay informed, engaged, and connected to their student’s learning,” said Berklee Cannon, Student Services Administrative Assistant at Alpine School District. Cannon has students who attend Alpine schools.
“Skyward is an indispensable tool for me that helps me stay connected to my students’ learning, " said Cannon. “Anything that makes it easier for me to access important information will help me be a stronger partner with my children's teachers and schools.”
Preparing for Takeoff: Next Steps for Parents
The Skyward team is notifying parents early to make sure they are aware of upcoming changes.
“As we get closer to the rollover date, we’ll ask parents who use the app to uninstall and then reinstall the Skyward app in order to log in to the new system,” said Jolley. “Additionally, there will be a period of time when Skyward will be down for the upgrade, but those key dates will occur after this school year ends and will be communicated to parents.”
In the meantime, Jolley is leading training for staff.
“Employees have the heaviest lift learning the new system, so we want to make sure they are familiar with all of the changes,” said Jolley. “Parents can start enrolling their students now for the upcoming school year in the current Skyward version. After the upgrade is complete, the interface will look different, but the process will be similar.”
“It’s exciting to be part of the team that helps make things easier for parents,” said Jolley. “I think they are really going to enjoy the new version of Skyward.”
