My name is Miss Allan, and I am THRILLED to join the Traverse Elementary second grade! I grew up in ST. George, Utah! I think I may have gotten a little too much red dirt in my shoes, because I love nothing more than warm weather and sunshine on my face! Teaching, dancing, decorating, photography, organizing, swimming, playing, Café Rio, running, winning, Fixer Upper, and the Hallmark Channel are the things that make me smile! My absolute favorite thing to do is travel. I have lived and visited places all over the world! However, I can’t travel every day, so in my normal life I thrive by teaching my students. This year will be my fourth year teaching elementary. The last three years I have been teaching third grade in ST. George. I graduated from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. In my classroom, our motto is work hard, play hard. Although, sometimes I make my students think we are playing when we are really working! I love finding new and creative ways to teach curriculum, especially the boring stuff! I am all for surprising my students and getting them excited to be at school. Nothing makes my heart happier than when my students become passionate about learning. I’m excited for this new adventure!

Mrs. Rachel Kennedy – 2nd Grade
FullSizeRender

Hello, my name is Rachel Kennedy, I am the new second grade teacher at Traverse Elementary.

I started my career as a full-time substitute for five years. I was known as the ‘favorite sub’. Because I loved teaching so much, I decided to get my teacher’s license. I graduated from Weber State University in 2011, in which I received the overall student teacher award. Since then, I have taught one year in fourth grade in the Ogden School District. Then in Weber School District, I taught two years in first grade and three years in third grade. At Traverse Mountain, Elementary, I will be starting my seventh year of teaching. When I started my career, I believed that second grade would be the ultimate teaching position. I have finally arrived in second grade.

I just moved to Cedar Hills from Plain City, Utah. I moved here, because I married the love of my life this past June. Yes, I still consider that I am on my honeymoon. I have four children. I have two daughters that are 21 and 22. My sons are 17 and 19. My husband has a 15-year-old daughter and a 11-year-old son. Now, I’m proud to say that I am a mother of six, beautiful children. I’m obsessed with my dogs. Our new addition to our family, is a Border collie named Ruger.

I have lots of hobbies. My favorite hobby is drawing, which I plan to do more of. This year, I’ve started to work-out at VASA, and I’m loving it. Lifting weights is my favorite. My ideal vacation is cruising in the Caribbean, although I love camping in the great outdoors. Can makeup be a hobby? My last career, I was a business manager for Lancome Cosmetics. Ever since then, I’m obsessed with makeup. I play a little bit of piano and I love to sing alto at church with small groups and choirs. Finally, I simply love going for walks with my smoking-hot husband.

Ever since I’ve started teaching, I’ve made life-long friends with my fellow teachers and parents. I am excited to make new friends and get involved with the Traverse Mountain community. I thoroughly enjoy parents in my classroom. I hope I get tons of volunteers this year and for years to come. We have had lots of fun and success when the parents are involved in their kids’ education. I am excited to be part of your lives, and together, we can have a successful future.

My name is Kira Davis, and I am the new kindergarten teacher. This spring I graduated from Utah Valley University, so I can officially call myself a teacher. However, I previously taught preschool for 5 years, and that’s where I really fell in love with the profession.

I am married to a teacher at American Fork High School, and have a 1 year old daughter who keeps us on our toes! We love to get outside whenever we can, eat pizza, and thrift shop! I always love a good book, and recently non-fictions are my favorite. I also enjoy cooking, writing, and when I am disciplined, even exercising.

I am excited to be joining the Traverse Mountain Elementary team this year, and cannot wait to meet my little kiddos. I am extremely passionate about education, and want to continually work towards be the best teacher I can be.

Mrs. Melissa Townsend – Resource

My name is Melissa Townsend. I am to the nth degree blissful to be part of the Traverse Mountain team. I am currently a level II licensed K-6 elementary teacher. I have been teaching 5th grade for four years. While teaching in a mainstream classroom is rewarding, I have known that my true calling is to be a special educator. I was a paraeducator in a special education department for four years before obtaining my degree. I am currently attending Weber State University to secure my special educators license. I believe all children come with a different set of strengths and weaknesses. It is my job to find those strengths and weaknesses and build on both skill sets.
My husband and I have four beautiful children Talon 13, Chloe 16, McElle 19 and Christian 27. McElle is a Cosmetologist, Christian is a Nuclear Engineer for the Navy, Chloe and Talon are focusing on their studies. We also have two furbabies Bitzy, the Chihuahua and Bently, the German Shepherd. Bitzy is more ferocious than Bently; it’s a good thing she only weighs three pounds. We have lived in Saratoga Springs for 17 years.
I love spending time with my friends and family. I have a passion for history and enjoy watching documentaries (especially those on World War II). I love love love gymnastics. I coached gymnastics for many years. I most recently coached level 3 team at All American Gymnastics. I enjoy going to the U of U gymnastics meets to see our two native Utahns compete, especially because they are All American Alumni. I enjoy reading, snowboarding, boating, and visiting our beautiful mountains here in Utah. We are very blessed to live in such a beautiful state. This is going to be a great year!
